Dragonboat racing is a team paddling sport whose roots extend through 2000 years of history. Originally a traditional ritual for the Chinese holiday called "Duanwu Festival," it has recently risen to prominence as an international sport.
Each dragonboat typically holds 22 people:
- 1 drummer, to synchronize the boat
- 20 paddlers, to power the boat
- 1 steersperson, to direct the boat
Standard races are 500 (frenzied but synchronized) meters. Learn more here.
